Restaurant kitchen fires have sadly resulted in the sacrifice of literally millions of dollars to restaurant owners.  These fires endanger lives and could potentially be the cause of numerous losses in employment. The reality is that these restaurant kitchen fires could have been and can be prevented.

Beaming heat and thermal energy produced from appliances in a restaurant kitchen escape through the commercial kitchen ventilation system. Unfortunately, restaurant kitchen fires have the ability to burn structures down either due to poor installation, careless upkeep or insufficient maintenance. The main reason is the inappropriate type of insulation in areas such as range hoods and heat ducts capable of overheating walls, ceilings and cupboards around them.

In spite of the primary principle of "clearance to combustibles" many installers ignore the requirements and opt for lower cost or insufficiently designed insulation. The grease exhaust released during the cooking process of virtually all food will build up on the hood, pipes and fan/blades.

These grease deposits are flammable at around 700°F. The high temperature within a blaze on appliances can effortlessly reach 2,000°F. If the combustion remains long enough on the interior grease it will ignite and develop into a wild burn that can swiftly be pulled through the complete span of the duct. These residues must be removed on a frequent basis previous to constituting a fire hazard. For a variety of reasons this clean-up is not occurring.

The marketplace is bursting with a wide assortment of insulation options. Exactly what kind is the best option for your restaurant needs? If you require a safer solution than to merely insulate your restaurant from basic temperatures you should consider mineral wool insulation. This type of insulation has numerous properties that extend well beyond maintaining reasonable temperatures.

Mineral wool insulation has an extremely high temperature threshold to protect against fires in the surrounding areas. This material will not melt under elevated temperatures and can endure up to 2000 degrees F before beginning to break down.
